The earliest evidence of â€Å"buck naked† on the Ngram Viewer, which is based on printed sources, appears in 1914. â€Å"Butt naked† comes along in 1924, but doesn’t make much of a showing until 1980, when it begins to soar. Judging by a Google search, the newer term has taken over, at least on the Web: â€Å"buck naked†: 509,000 results   â€Å"butt naked†: 2,290,000 results    I prefer â€Å"buck naked,† because â€Å"butt-naked† strikes my ear as excessively vulgar. This allegory is mainly centered on three characters. According to the writer, the dark brown dog, the father and the child are viewed as the main characters in the story. In most literary publications, the story mainly revolves around the characters. An overview of the story proves that the dark brown dog was mistreated by the family members (Crane, 2008). On the contrary, the dog did not respond violently to the household members even after receiving various forms of torture from the members of the household. In A Dark Brown Dog, the dog was treated inappropriately by the caregivers (Crane, 2008). The child of the household occasionally protected the dog from the harsh beatings. The child usually cried whenever his parents mistreated the dog. In one rare case, the father had struck his son’s head with a large saucepan after he had run toward s him protesting in order to protect the dog. From that point onwards, his parents reconsidered the issue of throwing items to the dog. Finally, the father of the household came home drunk. Afterwards, his son arrived home together with the dog. The father gave the dog a heavy beating and threw the dog outside the house through the window (Crane, 2008). The dog landed in a heap on top of the roof of a shed which was five stories below. The mood at the end of the story assumes that the dog had died after all the exploitation by the family members. In this literary work of fiction, the most prevalent theme is violence. According to the author, the dark brown dog faces violent actions from the members of the household (Collins, 2011). However, the dog was able to cope with the unjust beatings from the family. Further analysis also shows that on some occasions, the child who occasionally protected the dog imposed some form of torture to the dog. The author asserts that earlier on, the c hild thrashed the dog with a stick after he noticed that the dog was pursuing him. After he did this, the dog usually made funny gestures of apology to the child. According to the details contained in the story, the dog usually accepted the beatings from the family members (Collins, 2011). The child occasionally cried after the dog was smashed because the child loved the dog and even treated it like a close friend. The theme of violence in this short allegory has significant effects on the literary works. The child played the role of a close friend and a guardian to the dog (Magill, 1997). There are numerous literal elements that are contained in most short stories. Some of most common elements include the setting, characters, point of view, symbolism and plot. In this short story, the plot and the characters play an eminent role in the advancement of the subject matter of the story (Collins, 2011). Joanna Reeds diagnosis of the situation in his donor services department found many problems. LEADERSHIP The biggest problem was that there was no leader who was accountable. Elena was the supervisor but she had no control. She also had no leadership skills and did not get respect because she was not bilingual and of a different religion. The supposed leader, Jose, spent almost all his time in the community services department. He did not pay attention and left things up to Elena. INEFFICIENCY IN WORK The translators mostly did clerical work even though they were bilingual. The work in the office was divided into set tasks, one done by each person, and not divided evenly. Some workers had too much paperwork while the others had spare time. Those that had spare time did not help those loaded with work. There was also lack of training in English and in work, so quality was bad. The workers did not think about the job and used many extra steps and wasted time. TRACKING The data was not shared in the department, so people had little knowledge about their job. There were no statistics about time, requests for information, or responses. There was little communication, plus there was resentment of Elena by some. Jose did not hear about problems or about good results. MORALE The agency was run by a religion and Elena was not of that religion. However, everyone was proud of the agency and the religion. But morale was low because the workers did not use or improve their skills and had only a set and boring role to do. They are frustrated with the department. GROUP DYNAMICS One translator Magdalena had experience, college education, and maturity. She had strong belief in the agency and was more professional. Three translators socialized mostly, and their leader Juana was outgoing with good oral English. Other translators had too much work. Everyones English was only fair. Supervisor Elena was left out. Elena was treated like just a watchdog. Boss Jose was not around much and paid no attention. 2. What should she recommend to Sam Wilson? (HOW) Joanna might have made these suggestions: LEADERSHIP Magdalena might be a good supervisor instead of Elena. Magdalena had experience, education, belief in the agency, maturity, and professionalism. Magdalena could keep herself from making others dislike her by keeping a distance away from them. She could also have got respect. Juana could be given more leadership roles, to use her humor and outgoingness. Elena could do a job that required the hardest work. Jose could spend all his time in the community services department. INEFFICIENCY IN WORK The working strategy was changed to divide all the work more evenly, so all workers did all jobs. They could be less bored and learn more through such training. They could work in a team environment, rather than be selfish for themselves. Joannas identified unnecessary steps, which caused the system to be slow; could be changed to a better workflow. The workers could be asked to think more about improvements. The workers could be trained more in translating, perhaps they could translate easy documents or parts of documents. Socializing could be minimized to break times. TRACKING Statistics about time, requests for information, or responses could be kept and shared with all workers. Communication about problems or about good results would be increased through meetings, talks with leaders, and newsletters. MORALE All workers could know all jobs and be given a minimum of boring work, while improving skills. The religion should be emphasized along with service to others. The department could link with community services more. Communication should be encouraged. Togetherness as a team with an important purpose whould be emphasized. GROUP DYNAMICS The leader should be respected because of English languge ability and leadership skills and be of the right religion. Theleader should also be around all the time. The secondary leader should be a team worker and skillful in communication. The workers should respect each other and work as a team. All persons should have clear authority and responsibility. The workload should be fair. REWARDS Joanna could recommend rewards to change both the workers and the managers behavior. They could get a bonus for achieving goals. Can someone learn and choose to be happy? In this paradox it is hopeful to find some close truths about happiness and what is the need for this emotion. With our individ ual characteristics, patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting are we already born to be either happy or sad? What are the basic perspectives of the psychoanalytic and Humanistic nature for the people who make up this world who are always happy? Since the time of Aristotle his â€Å"telos†, or the end goal, was the same for all people, happiness. In Aristotle’s world, there are strongly knit groups where no strong distinction exists between public and private life. Everyone shares the same goals and values, so the pursuit of happiness is a cooperative initiative. That may have been the case back then, but in this day and time, not so much. Finding happiness and even defining happiness varies from person to person, between cultures and generations. There are times in everyone’s lives where decisions have to be made. Some decisions are small, some large and some life changing. Whatever type of decision you are faced with there is a process that is taken to determine the best possible outcome. In a personal aspect when I have a decision that needs to be made I tend to weigh all the possible outcomes and determine which one benefits me the most. For instance when I decided to go back to school at the University of phoenix I weighed the [possible outcomes of going back to school with the possible outcomes of not going back to school. Determining pros and cons is a typical weigh to reach an outcome when debating what to do in a scenario. I decided that the pros far outweighed the cons and I could potentially make a lot more money by going back to school in the long run than if I had decided not to re-enroll back into college. It is good for people to be able to see both sides of an outcome when making a very important decisio n in life. For the major decisions and choices people have to make it is essential they they be aware of the positive and the negatives of the potential outcome they choose. I have found that when a decision is to be made on very important issues I like to be able to play the â€Å"what if† game, the â€Å"what if† game is basically putting yourself into the different scenarios of the possible outcomes. For example, when I was debating on whether or not to return to school I put myself in the scenario of what if I don’t go back to school. That scenario would have played out with me being stuck in the same old dead end job and not making the effort to change my future for the better. When I put myself in the scenario where I went back to school I could see myself graduating, getting a good job and living a more prosperous life. In concluding the decision making process is one that helps people make real life decisions in real life situations. Some people use diff erent methods to help them figure out which decision is best for them. The majority of the time it pays to weigh your options and look ahead to what the potential of each decision could be.
